Central SoDakMesh is a volunteer-led, decentralized group dedicated to advancing educational and communal radio networking for everyone, regardless of age or experience level.

We started in July 2024 with a node mounted on a garage roof near the state capital. Since then, we’ve formed connections with local groups and authorities to advance our mission of delivering a no-cost, no-license-required, self-sustaining communication framework. This setup is versatile for urgent scenarios, routine interactions, or everyday connections with loved ones and neighbors.

We’re continually seeking spots to install our self contained radio units to broaden coverage in the Pierre region and beyond. If you own or manage a high-elevation site, tower, or tall building where we could place a compact, low-profile device, get in touch—we’d love to discuss options and evaluate suitability.

Our radio units:

• Avoid any drilling or wiring through roofs or exteriors.
• Rely solely on solar energy (no building power connections needed).
• Operate without internet, cellular, or data lines.
• Broadcast and receive on an open, no-license-needed radio band (902-928 MHz, similar to old cordless phones).
• Won’t disrupt existing radio or network equipment nearby.
• Are compact (roughly the dimensions of an iPad or small shoe box).
• Generally don’t need special fixtures (can attach securely in various safe ways, fully removable).
• Typically require maintenance once or twice annually, often handled remotely.
